Origin Story…
My name is Rick Brown and I am the inventor of this device, The Paddling Buddy. The Paddling Buddy is this frame that attaches to a dock or a pair of shore-side screw anchors and allows a person to get in and out of a kayak or on and off a paddleboard more safely and easier.
The Paddling Buddy is a frame system that will stabilize a kayak or paddleboard and lets a person step right down on the device with little fear of a fail. Flotation on the bottom of the frame stabilizes a kayak or paddle board so a person can easily use their favorite and enter the water. The upright portion of the frame creates handholds and stabilization to aid kayakers or paddle-boarders as they exit the water and lets users extend their paddling seasons and careers on the water.
The greatest feature is the ability to extend the age range of a kayaker or paddle boarder well into their senior years. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3NknmDIstM
My family and I live on this lake and we all golf. We bought floating golf balls and use the lake as a driving range. We use a kayak and a net to retrieve the balls. But you cannot use a kayak from the shoreline without getting your feet wet. (Tough to kayak in golf shoes!) I investigated and there were no good solutions except a regular $$$$ boat lift. I was mulling it over for a period of weeks and one day while staring at my dock the idea hit me. I made my first prototype out of a lounge chair. (Too narrow and the kayak fell off.) And I made a second out of an old army tent. (The kind with the poles on the outside.) I have since refined the idea through several iterations and have a more professionally constructed prototype. The Paddling Buddy.
That is the version that is available for presale now via a Kickstarter campaign.
